Michel Picard, chercheur (retraité) au CNRS, est membre du Centre Asie du Sud-Est (CNRS-EHESS-INALCO, Paris). Outre la publication de nombreux articles sur les questions de culture, de tradition, de religion et d'identité à Bali, il est l'auteur de Bali: Cultural Tourism and Touristic Culture (Archipelogo Press, Singapore, 1996). Il a codirigé plusieurs volumes collectifs, dont The Politics of Religion in Indonesian. Syncretism, Orthodoxy, and Religious Contention in Java and Bali (Routledge, London, 2011), et a récemment dirigé la publication de The Appropriation of Religion in Southeast Asia and Beyond (Palgrave Macmillan, New York, 2017).
